Project Overview

From problem framing to results — how the case study came together.

01

Problem Statement

Renting professional tools online is fragmented — listings are inconsistent, trust signals are weak, and checkout drops off. Instrumental Bazaar unifies discovery, booking, and payment in one focused marketplace.

02

Research

Interviewed 8 renters and 5 tool owners, ran a competitive audit of 6 rental platforms, and mapped current-state journeys to surface friction around trust, pricing clarity, and pickup logistics.

03

User Personas

Two primary personas guided the work: a weekend DIY hobbyist optimizing for price and pickup convenience, and a small contractor optimizing for availability, condition, and repeat rentals.

04

User Flow

Mapped end-to-end flows for browse → product details → cart → checkout → payment → review, with alternate paths for saved tools, wishlist, and tool management for owners.

05

Wireframes

Low-fidelity wireframes explored 3 catalog layouts and 2 checkout patterns before converging on a category-first grid with a single-page checkout and inline UPI capture.

06

Visual Design

A confident blue-and-cyan palette, soft neutrals, and a Space Grotesk / Inter pairing communicate reliability without feeling industrial.

07

Design System

Tokens for color, spacing, radii, and elevation feed reusable components — buttons, inputs, cards, chips, and the product tile — keeping the marketplace consistent as it scales.

08

High Fidelity Screens

Pixel-perfect screens cover home, power tools listing, product details, cart, checkout, payment, reviews, and the owner-side tool management view.

09

Prototype

A clickable Figma prototype connects the core happy-path so stakeholders and testers can experience the flow end-to-end.

10

Results

Usability tests with 6 participants completed the rental flow with a 92% success rate; SUS improved from 68 to 84 between the two rounds.

11

Key Learnings

Trust cues (verified owners, transparent deposits) move the needle more than aesthetic polish. Design-system-first pays back within the first two flows.
