From problem framing to results — how the case study came together.
Renters and owners primarily transact on mobile. The web patterns needed to be re-thought for one-handed use, thumb reach, and the UPI-first Indian payment landscape.
Shadowed 4 users through a full rental on-site and analyzed drop-off in a click-through prototype to identify friction on category browsing and payment confirmation.
The same two personas from the web study, refined with mobile-specific behaviors: quick browse in transit, saved payment methods, and location-based results.
Home → search → tool details → checkout → UPI → confirmation. Bookings, profile, and history are one tap from the bottom nav.
Iterated on bottom sheets vs. full-screen steps for checkout — bottom sheets kept users oriented and cut perceived steps in half.
Consistent with the web brand but tuned for smaller surfaces: larger tap targets, denser cards, and clearer state on payment screens.
Shared tokens with the web app, plus a mobile component set (bottom sheet, sticky CTA, chip filter row, list card).
Ten hi-fi screens including UPI checkout, bank details, PIN entry, payment success, profile, and bookings.
A prototype demonstrates the complete rental and payment loop with real UPI-style micro-interactions.
Prototype testing surfaced a 27% reduction in checkout time compared to the closest competitor's mobile flow.
On mobile, payment confidence is the product. Every millisecond of ambiguity on the PIN and confirmation screens matters.
